The motor and bearings, the most thermally vulnerable components, require specific protection. In some designs, such as Bifurcated Axial ac fans, the motor is placed outside the main air stream within a separate tunnel or sleeve built into the fan casing, allowing the conveyed air to bypass the motor entirely and drastically reducing its operating temperature[18]. For applications where the motor must remain in the airstream, high-efficiency, class H or higher insulation is used for the motor windings, and specialized high-temperature bearing lubricants are employed.
