I have a confession to make: I’m a bit of a data geek. I love spreadsheets, I love calculator name charts, and I love finding ways to visualize the patterns in my life. So, when I became obsessed with a simple and fast love calculator website, it was only a matter of time before I decided to apply my data-loving brain to it. I decided to conduct a full-scale, highly unscientific "study" of the romantic compatibility within my core circle of friends. The result was a relationship network graph that was so dramatic and hilarious that it became the hottest topic in our group chat for a solid week.

The project began one Saturday afternoon. I opened a new spreadsheet and, in the first column, I listed the names of the eight people in my core friend group. Then, with the love calculator website open in another tab, I began the laborious but entertaining process of testing every possible name combination. I tested every friend against every other friend. It took a while, but the instant, reliable results from the website made the process smooth and fun. I carefully entered each percentage into my spreadsheet, creating a complete compatibility matrix.

But a spreadsheet wasn’t enough. I wanted to visualize the data. I used a simple online tool to create a network graph. Each friend was a node, a circle with their name in it. I then drew lines connecting all the nodes. The thickness of the line corresponded to the compatibility score. A thick, bold line represented a score in the 90s, while a thin, faint line represented a score below 50%. The result was a beautiful, chaotic, and hilarious map of our social universe.

I took a screenshot of the completed chart and, with a sense of dramatic flair, I dropped it into our group chat. "I have completed my analysis of our friend group’s compatibility," I wrote. "The results are… revealing." The chat, which had been quiet, instantly exploded. The chart was like a grenade of social drama. Everyone was zooming in, trying to see how they scored with everyone else. The conversation was immediate and chaotic

"A 98% between me and Dave?!" my friend Hannah wrote. "My husband needs to see this!" Dave, who was also in the chat, replied with a series of wide-eyed emojis. We discovered "hidden CPs" (character pairings) that we had never considered. Two of our quietest friends, it turned out, were a 95% match, and we all started teasing them mercilessly. We also discovered who was "naturally incompatible." Our two most argumentative friends, who were constantly debating each other, had a score of 25%, which we all agreed was hilariously accurate

This pseudo-scientific chart was more effective at generating conversation than any personality test or horoscope we had ever tried. It was personal, it was funny, and it was all about us. It gave us a new, playful language to talk about our own relationships. We weren’t just friends anymore; we were nodes in a complex network of compatibility scores. The chart became a running joke, a source of endless teasing and self-deprecation that, paradoxically, brought us all closer together

It was a perfect example of how a simple tool can be used for creative and social fun. The love calculator provided the raw data, but it was our interpretation, our laughter, and our shared history that gave that data meaning. It was a project that was part data science, part social experiment, and all fun. And it all started with a simple, well-designed website and a nerdy desire to visualize the world
