Red Dead Redemption 2 's online beta officially released on November 27th (with a steady stream of access depending on when you bought the game and which edition you purchased), and after having months of bugs, economic woes, and users abusing the system, the latest update has rolled out, but users say it fails to fix many of the game's issues such as griefing and a broken econ
First off, new daily challenges are being added in, allowing players to earn gold nuggets (the big premium currency of red dead redemption 2 characters|https://reddeadwildland.com/ Dead Online ) as well as XP for completing activities such as hunting animals or finding hidden treasure. There are also new fishing challenges, which offers you the opportunity to prove that you're better at catching fish than your friends. "I played all day and couldn't afford anything decent, " Jim Sterling, a known reviewer, said on his YouTube video . "I ended up spending a lot of the money I was earning on a tin of beans." Four months later, new problems have cropped up, despite the game's economy chugging away like an old-timey steam engine. And the newest update has left players frustra
Take-Two further alleged that Pinkerton was simply attempting to steal their profits, arguing that Pinkerton agents have appeared in popular media throughout history. Not only did Pinkerton agents appear in the original Red Dead Redemption , but also in various Western films such as The Long Riders , American Outlaws , The Legend of Zorro , and 3:10 to Yuma . A former Pinkerton agent is the main character in BioShock: Infinite
Update: After further digging, it's been deduced that the Red Dead Redemption 2 's reported ambient occlusion visual downgrade is far from new -- in fact, the change has been active since Update 1.03 which rolled out late last year. Even still, it doesn't appear that an explicit downgrade to shadowing via ambient occlusion was noted in the Rockstar patch notes .
Pinkerton president Jack Zahran fired back at Take-Two with a letter that expanded his complaint to include an inaccurate or unfair portrayal of Pinkerton in RDR2 . "Pinkertons are seen shooting horses, shooting guns and firebombs into buildings where women and children are present, and as violent villains in the community. History tells a different story," Zahran wrote in his let
Several things pop up in this comparison photo -- you can see that Arthur's jacket is more illuminated and has far less shadow on the right-most image that has is taken with Update 1.06. Shadows under the bar are less prevalent and the general lighting is all around brighter.
On the PC front, Steam doesn’t seem all that likely to offer up an all-encompassing sale like they do each summer. There may be some smaller seasonal event, but those looking for deep discounts on that platform will still probably have to hold out until either late June or early July to send more money Gaben’s
Obviously, there is always the chance that there are mitigating factors causing these differences -- in previous rumors of downgrades, these could have been caused by differences in the weather or time of day . On the other hand, it isn't totally uncommon to see assets shift in updates as games are further optimized, either intentionally or unintentionally. However, if this is real and not just unfortunate side-by-side screenshot grabs, it is a shame. One of the principal reasons the game received a 10 from DualShockers is because it was a technical showstopper , including the lighting.
As for the crunch that will be retained, Iwiński told Kotaku "We’ve been communicating clearly to people that of course there are certain moments where we need to work harder—like I think the E3 demo is a pretty good example" and Badowski said "sometimes we have unique specialties, very unique people, and you cannot clone them. We need them to work on highly specific things. And we need to ask them to spend more time on something highly specific because there’s no other way to do
There's a good chance you will need to blow these images up to notice the difference, especially if you are a newcomer to ambient occlusion. Put simply, ambient occlusion is a game rendering realistic lighting based on the actual geometry in the room -- if a lighting source would be blocked, we wouldn't expect to see every inch of nooks and crannies. For a visual demonstration, you can take a look at this (thanks to website GamingScan ):
Oddly enough, it doesn't appear that the latest update mentions anything about removing or altering the lighting of the game, let alone a full removal of ambient occlusion. In fact, lighting isn't mentioned at all outside of small changes and texture issues .
In fact, some eagle-eyed users were able to spot the visual discrepancies then. User RolfStarGames on the GTA Forums captured the below images doing a thorough investigation between the original build and captures post Update 1.03. You can check those images in the following gallery:
