Sandbox games are popular these days to the degree that the style is now becoming an industry norm. Whether it's Grand Theft Auto V or the recently released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, having an open world to explore is becoming more traditional with every new release. The Western game not only had beautiful environments, but was filled with tremendous gameplay elements. The game also included one of the most well crafted narratives the industry had seen at the time. Looking back, Red Dead Redemption was lightning in a bottle and had a uniqueness about it that still stands even five years after its launch.

Red Dead Redemption II looks to be telling a true Western Americana tale, although that could be completely wrong knowing Rockstar. The trailer is only filled with Rockstar’s famous one-liners mixed with bouts of violence. While that is the very surface level, Rockstar has most-likely crafted a tail as dynamic as the landscapes in RDRII. Again, bringing it back to The Witcher 3. One of the reasons exploring the Northern Kingdoms in the Witcher is fun is because of its diversity encountered throughout the landmass and that’s just one map. More environment means a more fleshed out world; it gives reason to exploration these game worlds are rich in secrets and who knows what secretes RDRII is hiding. RDRII looks to not only be telling its own tale, but the many tales (sidequests) that can be found throughout.

A Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster is a gold mine that Rockstar has been sitting on for a long time now, and it's easily one of the most desired remasters in modern gaming at the moment. Fans would be absolutely ecstatic to get to p lay the beloved RPG again in 60 FPS and re-experience the masterpiece in all its glory. There's no question it would be a massive hit, so the RDR2 remaster is ultimately a question of when, not

MTV's main draw back in the day was music. Today, not so much. The station is now known for its outrageously toxic reality shows and award ceremonies where Twilight wins everything. But, we'll have to forgive them just this once. The Xbox 360 made its public debut on the channel back in 2005. It was showcased in a special presentation called The Next Generation Revealed. The event was hosted by Elijah Wood and covered the design, features and footage from some games. A live musical performance by the Killers and a special project from the guys at West Coast Customs (remember them?) were also featured on the program. The console wasn't available until November 2005 but the coverage by MTV helped boost the hype. Or it may have killed the radio star.

This is where it will be interesting to see if Rockstar has learned from games like The Witcher. RDRII could showcase mature tales that not only make for interesting stories but also allow the player to forget they are doing a side-quest, instead getting lost in the game's world. This doesn’t look to be a problem though, with heavy emphasis on the wide range of a cast seen throughout the trailer even if just the tip of the iceberg. Like GTAV, RDRII is giving its audience a living breathing world, that famous — when this is off the world keeps going — mentality.

The developers of Red Dead Redemption have challenged all shooters out there to some online multiplayer! Play the game with the developers from May 18th to June 1st for a chance to kill a RockStar and earn the in-game trophy /achievement called "Red Dead RockStar" that will go viral, much like the "Let Sleeping RockStars Lie" Achievement/Trophy in Grand Theft Auto IV . Gamers will even be entered into a contest to have their likeness featured in the game as a playable character via downloadable content if they earn the trophy and sign up for RockStar's Social Club . Western games are few and far between in the the realm of video games, but Rockstar managed to captured every little detail to give the game that classic old west aesthetic. From the large desolate landscapes filled with cacti to the small towns that included saloons, hotels and churches, Red Dead Redemption had a way of honing in every aspect of the early 1900s. Even the designs of the technology was spot on. Seeing the use of automobiles, machine guns and modern trains seemed to heightened every possible feature the game had to offer. It's why the game still holds up and looks beautiful to this day.

I will immediately state that I'm not pointing a finger at Rockstar saying they copied another game. In this industry, like any art, learning from others goes a long way. Rockstar has always been able to craft exceptional games -- just look at the most recent years of success with GTAV Online or any of the GTAs. What has Rockstar learned? From the looks of it, that it’s possible to create epic playscapes representative of our real world that will be fun to play in without fantasy or sci-fi. It has gotten a bit tedious that every game that’s willing to put out these massive sandboxes restricts it to stories of fiction, except Rockstar of course. Covering a bit more ground, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed is also helping fill this much-needed role for games.
