Jamie Petrone in March pled guilty to the scam, and on Thursday was sentenced to nine yearsA former official at Yale University's medical school was sentenced on Thursday to more than nine years in prison for carrying out a $40 million scam involving computers and other electronics.
Jamie Petrone was arrested last year and pleaded guilty in March to wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
According to the U.S. attorney's office, beginning in at least 2013 Petrone used her position as director of finance and administration for the school's department of emergency medicine to order millions of dollars of computer and electronic hardware for the school.
She then shipped the goods to a company that paid her, and resold them.
Petrone, 43, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, made individual orders of under $10,000 that ensured she wasn't required to seek additional approval, according to prosecutors.
She used the proceeds for luxury cars, real estate and travel.

Until her arrest last year, Petrone worked as director of finance and administrator at Yale University School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine
Petrone also filed false federal tax returns from 2013 to 2016 and didn't file any returns from 2017 to 2020, according to the U.S. attorney's office.
They said she caused a total loss to the government of more than $6.4 million.

In addition to her 109-month sentence, Petrone was ordered to pay full restitution and forfeit $560,000 seized from her company's bank account in addition to six vehicles, including two Cadillac Escalades.
'Today in court, Ms. Petrone profoundly apologized to Yale University for her inexcusable actions,' her attorney, Frank Riccio, said in an email.
'She continues to accept responsibility and intends on continuing with making restitution.'
Petrone has agreed to sell the three homes she owns and co-owns in Connecticut, including this property in Naugatuck, and use the money to make restitutions

Petrone was finally busted by an anonymous tip-off made to Yale bosses about her antics.
They passed on the information to the FBI, who arrested her in August 2021.
It is unclear how bosses at the college - famed for its $42.3 billion endowment - missed the industrial-level fraud being carried out by the scammer.
Petrone-Codrington's brazen crimes even saw her apply for a PayPal loan using her work email address, which saw her send over four months of bank statements that detailed her lavish spending.
Petrone used some of her misbegotten funds to purchase three homes in Connecticut and one in Georgia.
She also bought a 2014 white Mercedes-Benz G550, a 2017 red Land Rover Sv Autobiography, a 2015 black Cadillac Escalade Premium, a 2020 red Mercedes Benz, a 2016 white Cadillac Escalade and a 2018 Dodge Charger.

Petrone's husband of nearly 19 years, Jameys Codrington, displayed the family's impressive collection of cars on his business' Instagram page, which also features photos of the couple enjoying dinner at Gucci Garden in Florence, Italy, in July 2021.
Jameys Codrington, 44, has not been charged in connection with his wife's scheme.
