And Anne’s motivation is underplayed—we see her having sex with Pierre in an early scene, though she talks practically the whole time about an old guy she had a crush on in her youth. This close to unleashing an inner bad girl just waiting to come out? This South African thriller follows Nandi, a woman whose marriage is on the rocks, as her desire leads her down unexpected paths. The show is packed with passionate affairs, murderously jealous hearts, physical chemistry that you can almost feel through the screen, and steamy-as-all-get-out hookups (including a scene of very hot sex on the beach) that lead to unforeseen dangers. We love a high-stakes tryst, and this definitely fits the bill.
The last half of the movie is a madcap chase that Baker usually reserves for the final moments of his third acts. Anora ruminates for a while on the fleeting nature of the bond that its first half nurtures.
